Tooth Fairy cover blown

I have managed to keep my identity of the Tooth Fairy under wraps for almost 10 1/2 years now.  Samantha came to me yesterday morning and asked if it was me and that Catherine (Vogt) told her it was her mother.  I asked, “what do you think?” She didn’t know and wanted to know if it was me.  “what do you want to hear?”  She wanted to hear, “yes or no”.  So I shook my head yes and the tears started coming as she falls into my lap for a hug.  I told her not to worry that this doesn’t ruin any of the fun and she can still believe.  I will still take her teeth and leave her money.  Most importantly is not to spoil it for Sean!  She was OK and on with her morning she went.  

I am happy to report that she did not ask about anything else other than the tooth fairy.  Time will tell what December will bring for questions.

Grammie

This week my children are going to experience death first hand.  They pretty much have been sheltered from it their entire lives so far.  Franny/Grampa called this morning to talk to Chip and since he was at basketball with Sean he spoke with me and told me that Grammie would be dying probably tomorrow.  She is in a coma and her body is shutting down.  I won’t go into the details right now but this all started the weekend of October 21 when they came here for family photo weekend and Grammie fell.  She appeared to be fine but by Monday night that was no longer the case.

I went right over and told Samantha what was happening and of course she cries and we talked about it.  Her biggest thought was how Sean hugged Grammie at Thanksgiving when we saw her in the nursing home.  That was the last time the kids and I saw her.  If you knew Sean at all in the past 6 years, he did not hug anyone but me.  Maybe Samantha once in a while but that was it.  Then this Fall something changed and I found hime one day snuggling daddy on the couch.  Since then he hugs everyone he should.

Sean I don’t think completely gets death as when I told him he was sad, hugged me and told me it was sad but then wanted to show me something with his chess game.

Sean and the Patriots

Sean is CRAZY about football and that is an understatement!  To start, he asked for a “real Tom Brady shirt”.  I do a little research and these shirts run $60 to $125.  We are not messing around here.  He continues daily to tell us which friends have which shirt and how he needs the Tom Brady BLUE not WHITE like Matthew, #12 shirt.  So I give in and find one and Gram and Grampa offer to give it to him for his birthday.  It comes just after the big win over green bay (i hope i am right-the one where they killed them by half time).  We taped this for Sean since it was on at 8pm.  He watched it 5 times by the next week when they played again.  This time they played Ravens and won.  He wore his shirt Wed and Fri before the game and again on Monday after the game.  Then random times at home running the ball from the kitchen to couch-his daily routine.

This Fall he played flag football with the first graders.  Very low key and unofficial.  He however grew to love the sport even more.  He is having trouble with the fact that the superbowl is the last game of the season.  Chip told him it would start up again in the summer.  I say great now in June when it gets warm he is going to start asking for football when it is really late aug.  Even then it is lame!

We hope the Patriots win the Super bowl-not only for us but for Sean.

First tooth

Sean lost his first tooth on Monday night.  He woke up on Saturday morning and was beside himself with his first loose tooth.  He wiggled and wiggled it. He even let me do it side to side to really get it loose.  I thought it would be out that same night but it held out until Monday night when I was letting them “play” upstairs and all of a sudden Sean comes down crying like he broke his arm.  The tooth was out and there was blood (not as bad as they thought it was-not even dripping).  He was crying, “I wanted the whole thing!!!” OMG what is he talking about???  The part that is in your gum is not even on all sides and for Sean one side was long and one side was short.  He thought Samantha broke it.  It was whole….but I should add he came down crying Samantha punched him.  That is how the tooth fell out.  I later learned it was an accident and not punched out but more of a smack/grab.  Very non intentional and was easily resolved by me shooting pics.

Sean was shocked it came out and was hoping for a big $20 from the tooth fairy.  Chip thought that was insane and reminded me that at one point in time I thought so too.  Samantha had only gotten $5.  So in the end the tooth fairy brought Sean $6 (he is 6 and sam was 5)  He was thrilled and never mentioned the hopes for the $20 again!

Might I also add that he was still awake in bed when Daddy came home and I had sent Chip up to see and here about the tooth.  Chip came down repeating how Sean kept saying, “can you believe it?” at least 5 times.

Ahhh memories.  🙂

back to colonial times

In this economy many people are loosing their jobs.  Even though Chip still has his we discuss the chance that he could potentially loose it at any time.  So after hanging up the phone with Chip, Samantha asks what we were talking about and in not so many words I try to explain the world and our life.  Well her solution is that we turn off the electricity and give back all of our “stuff” and live like colonials did.  She truly thought this would work and that others would follow.  Meanwhile Sean is on the sidelines saying how boring it would be….what about toys.  Samantha tells him he would have to learn to sew.  I pipe in and say how Samantha and I would have a great time sewing, reading and baking bread at the fireplace we don’t have (lots of laughs).  Sean says it wouldn’t be fun because the boys did all the hunting and guns cost thousands of dollars and what would he play with???  The entire conversation was really funny and I had to explain that no one was going to go along with it no matter how bad things got.
